PHOTO_TONE

Mia Zabelka (AT) – Violin, Electric Violin, Voice, Electronic Devices, Alien Objects, Noise

In her new solo performance Photo_Tone, Mia Zabelka explores the hidden musicality of matter, energy, and transformation. Drawing inspiration from contemporary science, particle physics, chemistry, and invisible natural processes, she creates immersive sonic environments that translate microscopic phenomena into expansive acoustic experiences. Sound becomes a medium through which scientific imagination and artistic vision converge, revealing unexpected connections between elemental structures and human perception.

At the core of Photo_Tone is Zabelka’s interweaving of electric violin, voice, live electronics, sound objects, and computer-generated sound. These elements are not treated as separate components but form a single, multidimensional sonic language in which the violin is continuously transformed into networks of resonance, noise, harmonics, and electronic textures. Acoustic and digital sources dissolve into one another, generating complex sonic ecosystems that evolve in real time.

The music unfolds as an “acoustic multiverse,” a constantly shifting constellation of parallel sound worlds with differing energies, densities, and dynamics. Sudden eruptions of noise coexist with fragile microtonal textures, while drones, evolving sonic layers, rhythmic impulses, and spectral resonances collide and transform. The project embraces diversity and transformation, combining composition and improvisation within flexible conceptual frameworks that are shaped by real-time performance decisions.

Beyond its sonic exploration, Photo_Tone extends into questions of society, perception, and human existence. The invisible worlds of particles and molecular interactions become metaphors for interconnectedness, responsibility, and coexistence. Within this sonic ecology, multiplicity is not reduced to coherence but sustained as a dynamic condition of coexistence.

The simultaneous presence of divergent materials, practices, and modes of listening challenges reductive forms of ordering and foregrounds relational models based on openness and interdependence. In this way, Mia Zabelka’s solo resonates beyond the artistic sphere, proposing an experiential space in which diversity, difference, and collective presence emerge as generative forces rather than conditions to be contained.

Inspired by scientific thought, Photo_Tone further speculates on forms of existence beyond human perception, opening spaces for reflection on alternative realities and more interconnected ways of understanding the world. Mia Zabelka is driven by a fascination with forms of existence that unfold beyond the scale of human experience. The behaviour of particles, molecules and energetic fields becomes a source of speculation about possible worlds, alternative modes of being and realities that remain inaccessible to ordinary
perception, yet continue to shape our lives.
