"Soundart has become one of the most important artistic movements of the 21st century."
Peter Weibel

The klang.haus is an international centre for sound art, a forum for creative developments and is based on the subtle principle of auditive perception and sensory developments based on the process of listening. The house is built of bricks, concrete and glass with a surface area of 17 m x 8 m spread over two levels including a foyer, recording studio, silent space, gallery space and performance area.

The sound art presented at the klang.haus is concerned with all forms and aspects of noises, sounds, and tones. The character is defined by a basic interdisciplinarity, crossing the boundaries between visual art forms, literature, performance art, media art and music.

The "wein.klang" festival, which takes four times a year, presents sound art as a complex sensory event to the public. Far from urban rubble and noise pollution, the natural ambience of the klang.garten (directly in front of the house) provides an ideal setting for the unique and concentrated approach to the new forms of musical expression presented at the festival. The klang.haus itself is a constant process, within which the wein.klang festival has emerged as the first public project. Further initiatives such as a klang.archiv (sound archive) and an artist in residence programme are currently being planned.

The "wein.klang" Festival
The musical action "wein.klang" is an interface between contemporary and folk music with a festival character, involving audiences from town and country alike. The four seasons, which provide the acoustic and visual time frame for the quarterly festival, also inspire the work and performances of the artists involved.
